Sarah Maria Dos Santos Undergraduate Student, NOAA CESSRST Fellow
Sarah Maria joined the lab in 2024 as an undergraduate student at Brooklyn College, CUNY, where she is double-majoring in Earth and Environmental Sciences and Classics with a concentration in Greek and Roman Culture, and minoring in TV, Radio, and Emerging Media. Her research investigates the impacts of wetland restoration on water quality in Jamaica Bay. Her broader interest in environmental sciences centers on the impacts of climate change on coastal communities. She is a NOAA-CESSRTfellow (2021–2022), a research assistant at the Science and Resilience Institute at Jamaica Bay (SRIJB) (2023–present), and a CIRE scholar (2024–2025). Her research at SRIJB involves continuing the five-year assessment (2022–2026) of the ecological health and function of the West Pond Living Shoreline. The SRIJB conducts research focused on developing and evaluating nature-based solutions to improve water quality in aquatic ecosystems and increase the resilience of New York City’s coastlines.
